Cats: Supplies You'll Need1/ Bed or Sleeping Area
Your Kitty’s bed can be as simple as a cardboard box with a hole cut in the side for access. It must be large enough, though, so that Kitty can lie down and stretch out. An old blanket or pillow placed inside the box will do nicely. Or you can purchase a designer made bed from our Pet Centre. We have a large range of beds in stock for you to choose from.
2/ Food and Water Bowls
Your new Kitty should have its own food and water bowl. This way it will know that the food that goes into the bowl is it’s own. Choose a wide bowl designed for cat use that is easy to keep clean.
3/ Toys
Cat Toys that are safe for your Kitty should be chosen carefully. These will ultimately give your Kitty hours of fun. Avoid toys with sharp edges or loose parts that your kitten may swallow. Contact us to learn which toys cats like best.
4/ Litter Box and Litter
There are different types of Litter and a variety of Litter trays to choose for Kitty. A litter that may seem expensive at first glance will often be the most economical over a period of time. We use clumping litter at the Pet Centre.
5/ Cat Carrier
This is an essential item for taking your cat anywhere. Use a carrier for trips to the vet, when going on holiday, travel overseas, moving house, or for quarantine purposes.
6/ Brushes and Combs
If you brush or comb your Kitty regularly it will slowly get used to it and eventually wind up liking it immensely. Giving Kitty a bath is also helpful. A tame Kitty will sit contently afterwards while you dry her with a hair dryer followed by a gentle brushing of the coat.
7/ A Scratching Post
A good scratch post is essential. Your Kitty will love to jump and climb on a post, thus leaving valuable home furnishings and wallpaper well alone. Start with a small scratch post; once Kitty has grown in size buy a larger one that won’t be prone to tipping over. Encourage Kitty to play with the post, as opposed to your furniture, by spraying catnip along the post’s length.
8/ Nutrience Cat & Kitten Food
Nutrience is a complete balanced food and has many advantages over cheaper foods bought from a supermarket. Also, because cats like to graze and feed, it’s a good idea to have a bowl of Nutrience biscuits available, accompanied by water to aid digestion. This food will not attract fly’s and has no smell. All staff at the Pet Centre are trained about Nutrience Premium Foods and will be happy to answer questions you may have about proper feeding and nutrition for Kitty.
